We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on behavioral research projects at the PlayReadVIP National Center within the Department of Pediatrics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. The PlayReadVIP team (led by PI: Alan Mendelsohn, MD) is dedicated in part to developing and evaluating interventions aimed at promoting parent-child interactions to enhance school readiness for children in low-income families. Our multidisciplinary team of researchers brings together experts from a wide range of fields, including pediatric, developmental psychology, and education. A primary focus of this position will be on a funded randomized controlled trial taking place in Singapore to adapt, implement, and study PlayReadVIP. Outcome measures will include parent and child interviews, questionnaires, observations, and brain electrophysiology. The candidate will be responsible for management of scientific and administrative operations for this project, including high level of collaboration with colleagues in NYC and Singapore, and will have significant opportunities for involvement in other ongoing research. This fellowship provides substantial opportunities for new PhDs seeking experience, mentorship, and networking, as well as close collaboration with the Principal Investigator and considerable involvement in authorship of abstracts, presentations, and papers.
Scientific Responsibilities:
· Participation in research design, methodology, execution of statistical analyses, and generation of reports
· Coordination with international collaborators in Singapore to provide oversight for data collection, processing, organization, management, and analysis (including database design and management).
· Development of parent interviews, child assessments, and measures of parent/child interactions
· Coordination and oversight of transcription and coding of videotapes of parent/child interactions in Singapore (including training and supervising of staff and volunteers, development of coding schemes, and overseeing reliability and fidelity of coding)
· Coordination with PIs, collaborators, staff, and representatives of hospitals, universities, and agencies involved
· Write-up of and support for grant applications and reports
· Dissemination of findings, including leadership role on certain publications and presentations
· Scientific assistance with other research projects as needed
Administrative Responsibilities:
· Development and maintenance of grant, financial, and other regulatory records, including budgetary and contracting materials and Institutional Review Board records.
· General project management tasks
· Administrative assistance with other research projects as needed
Requirements:
· PhD in developmental psychology, education, neuroscience, implementation science, or related field
· 3+ years of research experience, and previous experience supervising employees, students, or volunteers
· Independent writing skills and communication skills
· Demonstrated interest in early child development, parenting, impacts of poverty on child development, differences in parenting across cultures, programmatic adaptation, and/or implementation science
· Proficiency with database and statistical software required (for example, Microsoft Excel, SPSS, R, STATA, REDCap); previous experience with database development preferred
· Proficiency with statistical design and analysis
· Preferred but not required: Knowledge of demographics/cultures of and/or proficiency in language(s) spoken by Singapore and Singaporean immigrant groups, particularly as it relates to parenting and early childhood
The starting salary for postdoctoral research fellows at NYU is $70,000. The salary range listed is for full-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits. Actual salary may not fall within the listed salary range; consideration will be made for experience, training, community need, and other factors.
Position will be based in person in New York City (some hybrid availability); candidate must be able and willing to travel between New York and Singapore as needed (approximately 2-3x per year) and have flexibility to work outside of normal office hours as needed due to time differences between NYC and Singapore.
