MercyOne Neuropsychology Clinic (Mercy One Medical Center) is now accepting applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology for the 2025-2027 training cycle. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Start date is also flexible in the 2025 year.
Our neuropsychology fellowship is geared towards a lifespan training model, with intensive training in neuropsychological assessment and evaluation across the lifespan (ages 7 through geriatrics). Fellows will gain experience in working with a variety of neurodevelopmental and acquired disorders such as ADHD, learning disabilities, TBI/concussion, stroke, dementia (of various etiologies), movement disorders, chromosomal abnormalities, and other neurologic conditions (e.g., epilepsy, MS, neoplasms, etc.), in addition to various psychological and co-morbid disorders. The primary goal is to provide fellows with well-rounded training and experience required to become independent and competent clinical neuropsychologists. As such, our fellowship is structured to be consistent with the Houston Conference standards and is designed to fulfill requirements for licensure as a psychologist in Iowa and for board certification in Clinical Neuropsychology.
Supervision/Didactics: Fellows participate in at least two hours per week of individual and at least one hour per week of group supervision, with additional supervision as needed. Each fellow has a minimum of two supervisors for individual supervision.
Didactic opportunities are delivered in a variety of formats, including clinical case presentations, mock fact-finding exercises, journal club, multidisciplinary lunch & learns, etc. Didactics are formatted to provide education on the etiology, neuropathology, neuroanatomy, neuropsychological presentation, treatment, and course of various neurological and neuropsychological conditions. Additional didactics may also be created and topics for discussion are flexible and tailored to individual needs and interests.
Qualifications: Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA/CPA-accredited program. All requirements for the doctoral degree (including internship and dissertation) must be completed prior to the start of the fellowship year. Prior training and experience in pediatric, adult, and/or lifespan clinical neuropsychological evaluations is also required; however, lifespan experience is not a prerequisite.
HOW TO APPLY: Completed applications should be submitted as one package, apart from recommendation letters, to Dr. Catherine M. Wargo, Psy.D., ABN, at the contact information below (electronic submissions preferred).
A completed application must include:
1. A personal statement of experience, training/career goals, and perceived program fit
2. A current curriculum vitae (CV)
3. List of tests/measures that you have experience with administration and scoring
4. Two de-identified neuropsychological reports demonstrating your breadth of clinical experience
5. Three (3) letters of recommendation from individuals well acquainted with your academic and/or clinical training and experience in neuropsychology. At least one letter of recommendation should be from a current supervisor/internship director. Letter writers should e-mail these directly to Dr. Catherine M. Wargo @ catherine.wargo@mercyoneiowa.org
Applications will be reviewed after completion of all required materials, including letters of recommendations. Applicants that we believe would excel in our training program will then be invited for an interview. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis and will continue until the position is filled
